Alexander Forbes The Academy is a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school, with 490 students and 42 staff located in the South Patterson neighbourhood and we welcome students transitioning into Grade 7 that attended Swanavon School.

Alexander Forbes the Academy School boundary students transition to Grade 9 at the Grande Prairie Composite High School. 

Our school opened in 1980 and is named after Alexander Forbes who was an early Scottish settler and one of the first elected Trustees of the Grande Prairie School Board in 1911. Alexander Forbes Biography

At Alexander Forbes, the Academy School we...

value every student's opportunity for success. Our values respect and diversity. We strive to work in partnership with parents to create and promote a safe, creative learning environment where mutual respect, responsible citizenship, open communication, and success for every individual are standard. As a staff, we are involved in the process of evidence-informed dialogue for school improvement.

We have developed and are proud to deliver comprehensive programming to meet the needs of all our students. We offer inclusive education programming for all students in kindergarten to grade 8. The Academy programming offers dance, hockey, and multi-sport athletics. We also have an Elder who works with students and staff to support the school in acquiring and applying foundational Indigenous knowledge.

KinderPAL Logo

KinderPAL is an early learning Program of Choice for kindergarten-age students in GPPSD schools. The Play and Learn experience is programming in a classroom setting where students experience peer-based play as they continue developing and growing their knowledge. 

Students will experience full school day learning with kindergarten programming for half their time, and the other half is KinderPAL. It follows the school’s full-day bell schedule and calendar. A certified teacher provides kindergarten curriculum instruction, and a KinderPAL Instructor provides KinderPAL programming.
